About the Role

Responsibilities
Advocate on behalf of students with special needs to ensure they receive appropriate and inclusive educational services.
Collaborate with parents, guardians, and educational professionals to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique requirements.
Stay updated on federal and state laws, regulations, and policies related to special education to provide informed guidance.
Attend IEP meetings and actively participate in discussions to represent the student's best interests.
Provide guidance and support to parents, helping them understand their rights and navigate the special education system.
Assist in resolving disputes or conflicts between parents and educational institutions, if necessary.
Monitor and assess students' progress, advocating for necessary adjustments to their educational plans.
Promote awareness and understanding of special education within the community and educational institutions.
Maintain accurate records and documentation related to advocacy efforts and student progress.
Stay informed about best practices in special education and advocate for their implementation.
Requirements
A bachelor's degree in a related field such as education, special education, psychology, or a similar discipline is often preferred.
In-depth knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to special education, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Strong communication and advocacy skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with parents, guardians, educators, and other stakeholders.
Empathy, patience, and the ability to work collaboratively with individuals with diverse needs and backgrounds.
Knowledge of the special education process, including the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
Experience in the field of special education or a related area, such as teaching, counseling, or social work, can be beneficial.
Familiarity with assessment tools and techniques used in special education to evaluate student needs and progress.
Legal and ethical awareness, as Special Education Advocates often deal with sensitive information and confidential matters.
Strong organizational skills for keeping track of multiple cases, documentation, and deadlines.
